General Description

Composite of originally separate fascicles assembled by Claudius Bouchet c. 1527 (DeanS). Copied mostly by Claudius Bouchet and Claudius Gellandi (DeanS). Gellandi's assistant wrote texts on ff. 59'-61; ff. 70-74' copied by unidentified scribe; ff. 77-90' copied by anonymous scribe who also wrote ff. 1 '-18, 170'-185, 207'-213', and 216-224 of VatG XII.2 (DeanS). Copied in Rome, for use by Cappella Sistina.

Illuminated initials and borders on ff. 3'-4 are work of Vincent Raymond (LlorM), and include coat of arms of Medici pope, probably Clement VII (ca. 1475-1534). Other folios have inked calligraphic initials decorated with tracery.

XVIe. s. 137ff. + 2ff. limili. Papier, 535 x 410 mm. Foliotation ancienne en chiffres romains dans laquelle les ch. 25 et 29 ont été sautés. Les 2ff. limin. et le f. 142v. sont blancs. Notation mesurée blanche. 10-11 portées par p. Au f. 1[3]: Tabula hujus libri avec foliotation en chiffres romains. Initiales des ff. lv-2 [3v-4] enluminées or et coul. probablement par Vincent Raymond, les autres ornées à la plume.

Bien qu'on y reconnaisse sur 1 douzaine de ff. 1a main de l'un des scribes du Codice Medici (I-F1666) daté de 1518, ce ms. a été en grande partie copié par Johannes Parvus dont il constitue probablement le plus ancien travail en sa qualité de scribe papal. Les armes du pape Clément VII (1523-1534) indiquent que le recueil a été en tout cas achevé sous son pontificat. D'autre part, si Josquin Dor (no 2) peut être identifié avec Josquin Doro, obscur chanteur papal, la copie du manuscrit doit se situer peu après son passage à la Sixtine, c'est-à-dire aux environs de 1522.
