General Description

A single partbook containing various voice parts, now bound with several unrelated manuscripts from 15th-17th centuries in composite volume of iv paper + 129 paper and parchment + v paper folios (c. 380 x 220). Ff. 1-83 contain poetry and other writings; ff. 84-117 constitute partbook described here; remainder contains instrumental dances in lute tablature. Music on ff. 84-117 carelessly copied by several scribes. Copied in Durham or vicinity, according to two 18th-century inscriptions, one in the hand of the antiquarian Joseph Ritson. Original owner may have been Thomas Awdcoron, whose name appears on f. 117'. Owned in early 18th century by James Mickleton, of Gray's Inn, London, then by Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford (1661-1724). Subsequent history same as for LonBLH 1512.

1 paper partbook (Various parts-34 folios), ca. 145 x 195, now bound with several unrelated manuscripts from 15th-17th centuries in composite volume of iv paper + 129 paper and parchment + v paper folios, ca. 380 x 220. New ink foliation, 1-127 (last two folios not numbered). New covers of red leather and cloth on cardboard. Ff. 1-83 contain poetry and other writings; ff. 84-117 constitute partbook described here; remainder contains instrumental dances in lute tablature. Second half of 16th century. Copied in Durham or vicinity, according to two 18th-century inscriptions, one in the hand of the antiquarian Joseph Ritson.
