General Description

A volume containing solo parts for same pieces that are in the accompanying partbook set of three volumes. Contains Offertories and Communions, as well as other solo sections evidently intended for alternatim performance with polyphonic sections. These partbooks contain the only complete weekly cycle of English Lady Masses known. Possibly copied by Nicholas Ludford at St. Stephen's, Westminster. Perhaps a gift from the composer Nicholas Ludford to Henry VIII, King of England, and his wife, Catherine of Aragon. Eventually incorporated into the Old Royal Library, which passed to newly founded British Museum in 1757.
