General Description

Copied by two scribes (RifRM), one of whom was probably 'P. SL. Gwalth(er),' whose name appears on f. 3; the same scribe also wrote MunBS 510 (BenteNW) and WolfA A (RifRM). Perhaps copied in Augsburg (BenteNW); copied in Munich (RifRM), for use at the court of Wilhelm IV, Duke of Bavaria (1493-1550). Kept in Munich Hofkapelle library until end of 18th century, then transferred to ducal court library, whose holdings formed foundation of present Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

ii + 200 + ii paper folios, 421 x 283. Modern pencil foliation, 1-202, by J. J. Maier (includes front flyleaves). Original numbering of pieces, 1-8 (last Mass not numbered). Ff. 1-2', 30'-35, 141'-142, 179'-181, and unnumbered flyleaves at end blank except for piece numbers and modern inscriptions; blank staves only on f. 202'. Original covers of dark brown leather over wooden boards, stamped with ornamental designs; brass corners and bosses. Bavarian coat of arms painted on front cover. No index.
