General Description

Composite of three originally independent fascicles copied at different times, probably at different places. Each piece copied by a different scribe. Probably of south German or Austrian origin; possible connections with court of Palatine count Ottheinrich at Neuburg. Came to Bavarian ducal court at Munich at an unknown time (probably during 16th century); placed in ducal court library, whose holdings formed foundation of present Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

91 paper folios, 415 x 285. Composite of three originally independent fascicles copied at different times, probably at different places. Modern pencil foliation, 1-91, by J. J. Maier. Numbering of pieces, 2-3 (first piece not numbered, but included in enumeration). Ff. 1-1', 49'-50, 78'-80, and 89'-91' blank except for piece numbers and later inscriptions. Original covers of black leather over cardboard, stamped with ornamental designs (saints, flowers). No index. Each piece copied by a different scribe. Inked calligraphic initials. Watermark on ff. 1-49 resembles Briquet #2173-4; no watermark on ff. 50-79; watermark on ff. 80-91 generally resembles Briquet #3401.
