General Description

A Discantus partbook of a set originally of 6. Anthems and motets copied by a single scribe, who also wrote ShrewR 1; Service sections are later additions by one or two different hands. Copied in Ludlow, for use at Church of St. Lawrence. Deposited at present location in Shrewsbury in 1950.

1 paper partbook of an original 6 (D-11 folios), ca. 147 x 207. Folios in poor condition, but restored and gauzed. Ink faded on some folios; some music now illegible. New pencil foliation, 1-11. Folios not attached to parchment covers now preserved with this manuscript; covers are considerably smaller (ca. 115 x 168) than folios, and may be unrelated. No index. Anthems and motets copied by a single scribe, who also wrote ShrewR 1; Service sections are later additions by one or two different hands. One inked calligraphic initial. Watermark: pot with initials "R D" (not in Briquet).
