General Description

A single Discantus partbook. Copied by one main scribe and two or more additional scribes. Only anthems have full text underlaid; other pieces have text incipits or titles only, or are textless. Copied in England. Original owner apparently Thomas Inons, whose name appears inside front cover. Later owned by Thomas William Taphouse (1838-1905) of Oxford (inscription inside front cover); bookplate of G. E. P. Arkwright (1864-1944) inside back cover. Purchased by Folger Shakespeare Library at Sotheby's sale of Arkwright's books in 1939.

Rebound in new covers of creamy yellow parchment on cardboard; remnants of two leather ties. No index. Copied by one main scribe and two or more additional scribes. Staff height 12-14 (not consistent). No initials or decoration. Watermark: vase (not in Briquet). Only anthems have full text underlaid; other pieces have text incipits or titles only, or are textless.

Ca. 1590 (RicciC). Copied in England. Original owner apparently Thomas Inons, whose name appears inside front cover.
