General Description

A Quintus partbook from a set originally of five volumes. Main corpus copied by Thomas Wode or Wood (d. 1592), vicar at St. Andrews, who is named as scribe on several pages; other unidentified scribes made additions in early 17th century; later additions possibly copied in Aberdeen (HutchiS). Subsequent history of set prior to 19th century not known (except for duplicate Discantus book (EdinU Dk.5.14), in Edinburgh University Library since 1672). Partbooks apparently taken to Ireland at one time. Discantus and Tenor books purchased by the antiquarian David Laing at 1867 sale in London and only this Quintus book (DubT 412) has remained in Ireland. Belonged earlier to unidentified Irish clergyman.
