General Description

A single Tenor Decani partbook. This volume is a companion to (but is not part of a set with) C13 - the latter containing services, this volume a collection of anthems. Copying of Part II began at back of book, working toward middle; music of Part II upside down in relation to that of Part I.

Main layer copied by Toby Brookinge, who also wrote most of DurC C11, DurC C13, DurC C16, DurC E11a, and YorkM 29; later additions by Alexander Shaw, John White, and one unidentified scribe, who also made additions in DurC C2, DurC C13, and YorkM 29 (Brian Crosby). Copied in Durham, probably for dean of Durham Cathedral (CrosbyD). 'Denis Grenvell' and 'John Sudbery / his book' appear on recto of first original flyleaf of Part II; Grenvil was dean of Durham Cathedral 1661-84, Sudbury held same position 1684-91.
