General Description

A Tenor partbook of a set of four volumes. Copied by Johannes Heugel (d. 1585), court composer for Philip of Hesse, who also wrote KasL 4, 9, 24, 38, 53a, 53b, 91, 94, 118, 142, and part of KasL 143. Copied in Kassel, for the court of Count Philip of Hesse. Present Landesbibliothek incorporates holdings of former court library.

General Note

The motet was written in 1546 on the occasion of the liberation of Tileman von Gunderode, Chancellor of Landgrave Philipp of Hesse, by Maximilian of Bueren. Gunderode (1512-1550) was made Chancellor in 1545; he accompanied Philipp to Halle when he had to make atonement before Emperor Charles V, and accompanied the Landgrave into captivity, but returned to Hesse in the autumn.
