General Description

A rotulus bearing music on one side and carols on the other. A single scribe copied all the carols; a later hand added Latin Offices on the reverse side of the roll. Copied somewhere in East Anglia, judging from the language of the texts (GreS). Given to Trinity College in 1838 by H. O. Roe, Esq.

RISM B/IV 4: 15. Jh.; Pergament-Rotulus, 2007 x 178 mm. Rote Fünfliniensysteme in Partituranordnung mit weißer, englischer Mensuralnotation des frühen 15. Jh. (Colores bei Nr. 1 schwarz, sonst rot). - In einem Metallzylinder aufbewahrt.

Dieser aus der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jh. stammende Rotulus ist eine der frühesten und besten Quellen für die Musik der Carols. Er wurde dem Trinity College im Jahre 1838 von H. O. Roe Esq. geschenkt. Auf der Rückseite des Rotulus stehen theologische Texte.

[Translation: 15 Century, parchment-Rotulus, 2007 x 178 mm. Red five-line systems in score order with white, English mensural notation of the early 15th Century (No 1 has black, or red coloration). Stored in a metal cylinder.

This Rotulus dates from the first half of the 15th Century and is one of the earliest and best sources of carol music. It was given to Trinity College in 1838 by HO Roe Esq. On the back of the Rotulus are theological texts.

A parchment roll, 2007 x 178, consisting of three sections sewn together. The manuscript is kept in a metal cylinder. White mensural notation with red coloration. A single scribe copied all the carols; a later hand added Latin Offices on the reverse side of the roll. Red and blue initials.
