RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A parchment manuscript meas. 293 x 223 mm. and containing 96 folios. In addition, there are two 13th century musical flyleaves at the front and 3 modern, brown paper, blank, unnumbered flyleaves at the back. The contents are a Register of Bury St. Edmunds from Richard II to Henry VI (index f. 93v-96). The corpus all looks 15th century, but may well start in the 14th. There is an old foliation of the 15th century at t.r.r., together with a more recent one. The two musical flyleaves, f. i-ii, have a modern pencil foliation at t.r.r. They are written in Notre Dame score notation with beautiful initials in red, blue, green and violet. The English origin is revealed by a lone English conjunctura at the top of f. ii, though elsewhere the continental form is employed. There are 12 red five-line staves per page. Unfortunately, the two pages are not consecutive. The binding is of stiff cardboard for the front and back covers, while the spine is of brown leather.
