General Description

A Bassus partbook, now incorporated in miscellaneous collection of non-musical writings and state papers. First scribe copied f. 16; second scribe, ff. 16'-17'; third scribe, ff. 18-23, 24-25'; fourth scribe, ff. 26-29'. Probably copied in London or vicinity. Later came to State Paper Office, with other papers from reign of Henry VIII. Documents transferred to Public Record Office in 1848.

1 paper partbook (B-14 folios), 151-8 x 203-12, now incorporated in miscellaneous collection of non-musical writings and state papers. Composite collection has modern stamped foliation on upper rectos, more recent pencil foliation on lower rectos. Partbook comprises ff. 16-29 in pencil foliation (= ff. 19-32 in stamped foliation); following references are to pencil foliation. No covers. No index. First scribe copied f. 16; second scribe, ff. 16'-17'; third scribe, ff. 18-23, 24-25'; fourth scribe, ff. 26-29'. No initials or decoration. One watermark resembles Briquet #11266; second watermark (pot with initials "D? I") not in Briquet. Some pieces have text incipits only.

Ca. 1540-50 (StevP). Probably copied in London or vicinity. Later came to State Paper Office, with other papers from reign of Henry VIII. Documents transferred to Public Record Office in 1848.
