General Description

Original folios recovered from binding of printed book, apparently the remnants of two partbooks, a Tenor (ff.1-2) and a Discantus (ff. 3-4). Copied by three scribes, one of whom copied a piece in each book and also copied the front flyleaf in Drexel 4180, suggesting that the books may have been from a set (FallDrex). This related set of fragments is brought together in a ‘virtual manuscript’ here.

Possibly copied in Oxford. Later used as binding material for printed book containing writings of Bishop Gervase Babington (London, 1615). Probably came to Bodleian Library c. 1615-20 (MadanSC). Fragments with music removed from binding in late 19th century; now preserved separately.
