General Description

Copied by several scribes; the last two unnumbered folios are in a different hand. The manuscript is in two parts: part I contains Latin sacred pieces (sometimes with partly German or Dutch texts), mostly for Christmas and for the Virgin Mary; part II has Dutch devotional pieces, which are contrafacta of secular works. Probably from a Franciscan cloister near Utrecht (GeerO). The name 'Vincentius Traiecti' [=Vincentius of Utrecht] inside the back cover may be in the hand of the principal scribe, and probably refers to the first owner of the manuscript, or the person for whom it was copied (HusML). Purchased in Leiden by Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1821; acquired by the Berlin library in 1850.

Contains Iste confessor Domini sacratus - Orbis exultans - Ut queant laxis

RISM B/IV 4: 15. Jh.; 186 Blätter Pergament, 162 x 110 mm. Moderne Foliierung von f. 1-184 (die 2 letzten, leeren Blätter sind nicht foliiert); originale Lagenbezeichnung von A (= moderne f. 4) bis Z. Je Seite bis zu 6 Vierliniensysteme mit gotischer Choralnotation oder deutsch-niederländ., choral-mensuraler Mischnotation (vereinzelt weiße Mensuralnotation). - Einband: 15./16. Jh.; mit Leder überzogene Holzdeckel.

Diese von mehreren Händen um 1500 oder kurz vorher geschriebene Handschrift ist eine der wichtigsten Quellen des mittelniederländischen Liedes. Sie stammt sehr wahrscheinlich aus dem Agnes-Kloster in Utrecht. Einer der ersten Besitzer war ein gewisser Vincentius Traiecti (vergleiche f. 184v). 1821 wurde die Handschrift an die Preussischen Staatsbibliothek in Berlin.

Inhalt: Die Handschrift enthält insgesamt 85 lat. und 106 niederld. Stücke, davon 132 mit Musik (47 mehrstimmig). - Die Folios 1-3 sind ursprünglich Vorsatzblätter mit niederld. Lieder (einstimmig); f. 72-183v (ab Lage I) vorwiegend niederld. Liedtexte, dazwischen ein Tropar (f. 83-95), zum Teil mit Melodien; f. 183v/184 Sanctus-Tropus.
