General Description

Gradual from Freising. The polyphony occurs in the margin at the end among some Sanctus tropes. It cannot be deciphered since there is no stave, but it is nevertheless only known three-part version of the extremely popular Procedentem sponsum de thalamo (for incipit of the two-part version, cf. ETw 44 6). The first two lines of text (Procedentem sponsum. de thalamo. Prophetavit scriba cum calamo) have no music, but the three-part writing begins at Quem progressum divina gratia. Each voice-part is divided by a horizontal line.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 14th century parchment Gradual from Freising meas. 418x330 mm. and consisting of 109 folios, according to the incomplete modern ink foliation at t.r.r. Actually, 8 more must be added, and these foliations have been partly inserted in pencil. Many pages are cut away at the bottom or at the side. The binding is of rough, worm-holed white leather over wooden boards. Both the script and the staffless neumes are Gothic, but the notation is not heavy enough to be called of Hufnagel type. Initials are in red, blue or both, and there are 14 lines of text and music per page. The polyphony occurs in the margin at the end among some Sanctus tropes.
