General Description

Composite of originally separate fascicles. Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote ff. 218'-227 of VatS 23, ff. 87'-103 of VatS 41, ff. 36'-55, 69'-93, and 129'-140 of VatS 49, and ff. 39'-44, 59'-63, and 65'-70 of VatS 63 (SherrPM). Ff. 10'-12 and ff. 38-48 copied by second scribe, who also wrote ff. 204'-206 of VatS 35, ff. 50'-54', 185', and 187 of VatS 41, and all of VatS 197 (SherrPC). Contents in three sections: (1) hymns (ff. 2'-70); (2) Magnificats (ff. 71'-160); (3) motets (ff. 161'-269). Copied in Rome, for use by Cappella Sistina. DIAMM Note

SherrPMM’s ‘Scribe B’ copies pieces by de Orto & des Pres (only) in Vats 15, 35, 41 and 197. RodinWIR considers it therefore “tempting to identify Scribe B as one of the two composers”.

RISM Description

RISM

XVe/XVIe s. 269 ff. Papier 540x413 mm.
