General Description

Fragments of a manuscript containing 13th and 14th century motets, cut down for use as flyleaves in the binding of MS lat. 16443 (a 15th century codex from St. Zeno near Reichenhall containing Henricus de Perching's collects on the canon of the mass among other things). MüB is a typical motet MS of the Ba type written in two columns, containing the TV and Mot respectively, while the T takes up the bottom of the page without any division. On f. 3 is a monodic sequence ending benedicamus domino, which is written straight across the page. Underneath it is a stave of Gothic neumes added somewhat later.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: Fragments of a 14th century parchment manuscript containing 13th and 14th century motets. There are now only two double pages varying in size and 16 horizontal strips which have been pieced together to form another double page. These strips however originally formed part of at least two double pages, as can be seen by the division into folios la, Ib, IIa, IIIb in the present list, which follows Ludwig's enumeration. The original size of the fragments was c. 210 x 156 mm., though they were cut down for use as flyleaves in the binding of ms lat. 16443, which is a 15th century codex from St. Zeno near Reichenhall containing Henricus de Perching's collects on the canon of the mass among other things. MüB is a typical motet ms of the Ba type written in two columns, containing the TV and Mot respectively, while the T takes up the bottom of the page without any division. There are 7 red five-line staves per page, blue-red initials and a slight Gothic touch in the script. In spite of an apparent differentiation between longs and breves, the music must generally be read as though all the single notes were undifferentiated longs of Notre Dame type. Franco's innovations do not seem to have found their way into this ms, in spite of its superficial resemblance to Ba. On f. 3 is a monodic sequence ending benedicamus domino, which is written straight across the page. Underneath it is a stave of Gothic neumes added somewhat later.
