RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 13th-14th century parchment manuscript meas. 165 x 112 mm. and containing 70 folios + 1 modern unnumbered parchment flyleaf at the front. The binding is fairly modern, and consists of red morocco over wooden boards with gilt tooling. The contents are the office of the B.V.M. as drawn up by Charles II of Anjou, king of Sicily from 1285-1309. The notation throughout is written on 4 red five-line staves per page, and is measured for Tro and sequences. Initials are in red-blue with filigree. A modern ink foliation appears at t.r.r. The only polyphony is a two-part Amen ending the Salve, regina glorie sequence. Longs, breves and c.o.p. ligatures are clearly differentiated in the notation.
