RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: The important Trouvère chansonnier is a 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 305 x 214 mm. and containing 181 folios. The 19th century red morocco binding with gilt tooling includes a further blank unnumbered paper flyleaf, while 2 older parchment flyleaves at the front precede f. 1. Another at the end follows f. 181. There is an old foliation in red at t.m.r., but a more accurate one in modern ink appears at t.r.r. The 2-column writing is typical of the late 13th century chansonniers, like the square notation in undifferentiated longs and ligatures on 8-10 red five-line staves per page. Initials are in red-blue-gold. Of the many composers, probably the most important in this collection are Guillaume li Vinier, Guillaume d'Amiens, Perrin d'Agincourt, and Gillebert de Berneville. The motets and rondeaux are preserved on f. 114-119v. Even here the notation is often om., and the motet T are missing throughout, except in no. 2.
