XVe s. 80 ff. (+ 9 ff. limin. ajoutés postérieurement, foliotation moderne I-IX). Papier et parchemin (f. 8 purpureus) 111X166 mm. Foliotation ancienne en haut des ff.: 1-101 devenue discontinue après la disparition de nombreux feuillets, et foliotation moderne au bas des ff.: 1-80. Suivant la foliotation moderne, les ff. IX r. et v., 1 et 8 sont blancs. Notation mesurée blanche. 4 portées par p. Aux ff. limin. II à VIIIv, tables récentes du ms. Aux ff. 3v-5v, table ancienne du ms. portant une numérotation des pièces en chiffres romains et comprenant aussi les pièces qui mq. actuellement. Initiales et marges ornées, fleurs et oiseaux en couleurs. Reliure ancienne cuir brun.

La belle décoration et le style de l'écriture du ms. montrent bien qu'il était destiné à un amateur raffiné, ce que viennent corroborer les textes copiés aux premiers ff. révélateurs d'un milieu humaniste et donnant de surcroît quelques éclaircissements concernant la date du ms.: f.lv: «PRO NOST. AMI/COR. Q.SO/LATIO»; f.2: tête de Christ; f.2v: «Quid possit musica» avec longue citation de «S. Isidori Hispalensis Sententiae de musica», suivie au ƒ.3 d'un sonnet «Grande e la forgia e grandi son gli affetti» . . . sous le même titre «Quid possit musica». Après la Table aux ff. 3v-5v, le f.6 porte une citation de Piine (Naturalis Historiae): «Harmoniaca ratio rerum . . .»; f.6v: éloge de la musique d'une écriture recherchée difficile à interpréter; ƒ.7: Sonnet «Perche non fosti a reverir ne lento» sous le titre «PIERIDES.M.IO.AD.FRAN.DE./ FA.ALUMN.S.»; ƒ.7v une inscription très hermétique permet de conclure que le scribe a commencé sa copie le 4 octobre 1495 (n.st. 1496). (cf. Jeppesen LF 11,79). Probablement copié à Padoue, peut-être (pour son usage personnel) par Crispinus de Stappen qui y était organiste depuis 1492 et dont la frottola «Vale vale de Padua» qui termine le ms (n° 82) a pu être composée en 1493, date à laquelle le musicien dut partir pour Rome, abandonnant Padoue où il devait d'ailleurs bientôt revenir pour y rester jusqu'en 1499. D'autre part, le fait qu'on y trouve encore des textes du poète Serafino Aquilano (nos 5 et XI qui mq.) mort en 1500, permet de supposer que la copie était terminée à cette date, la réputation de ce poète mineur ne lui ayant vraisemblablement guère survécu. Sur les 103 compositions primitives, 82 seulement nous sont parvenues (dont 18 incomplètes), qui adoptent le plus souvent la forme du strambotto.
