General Description

A Sanctorale (f. 227-275v), a small fascicle of votive masses (f. 321v-329) and a Kyriale arranged in mass cycles (f. 334-342). Written in two columns. The MS contains a Missa generalis Sancti Augustini on f. 327, meaning that it may well come from an Augustinian monastery, perhaps in Toulouse itself. The mass consists of the Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus and Ite, together with the T of the Credo from 'Crucifixus' on.

DIAMM, 2017
Notation

Ars Nova ( accidentals are almost entirely absent)

DIAMM, 2017
Ruling

red four-line staves (corpus); ten red five-line staves per page (polyphony), with T parts on f. 1, 147v and 225v written on two five-line staves in the lower margin

DIAMM, 2017
Foliation

An old foliation appears at t.l.v. and a modern ink one at t.r.r. The modern number 163 at t.m.r. of f. 1 is puzzling, after which f. 2 is numbered 1 by another modern hand.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 14th century parchment Missal meas. 286 x 200 mm. and consisting of 342 folios written in two columns. At least four folios are missing, and the codex is damaged at the end. An old foliation appears at t.l.v. and a modern ink one at t.r.r. The modern number 163 at t.m.r. of f. 1 is puzzling, after which f. 2 is numbered 1 by another modern hand. There is a Sanctorale (f. 227-275v), a small fascicle of votive masses (f. 321v-329) and a Kyriale arranged in mass cycles (f. 334-342). Since the ms contains a Missa generalis Sancti Augustini on f. 327, it may well come from an Augustinian monastery, perhaps in Toulouse itself. Although the ms corpus belongs to the first half of the 14th century, and is written on the usual red four-line staves in square plainsong notation, the polyphonic mass added at odd places in the manuscript belongs to the latter part of the century and is written in Ars Nova notation on ten red five-line staves per page. The T parts on f. 1, 147v and 225v are written in the lower margin on two five-line staves. Accidentals are almost entirely absent. The mass consists of the Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus and Ite, together with the T of the Credo from "Crucifixus" on.
