Contents 71 pieces from 11 composers
General Description

The original layer of the manuscript consists of organ intabulations of 14th-century vocal works; CaraE is a facsimile edition of this part of the manuscript, and these pieces are transcribed in PlamKM. The 22 15th-century pieces were added later, on pages that had originally been left blank; several treatises were copied on blank pages at the same time. The original layer of keyboard intabulations was copied in northern Italy; the second layer (the 22 pieces listed above) was copied by Johannes Bonadies at the Carmelite monastery of San Paolo in Ferrara. These pieces may represent a Lucca repertory of 1467-73. The manuscript was later taken to Faenza, probably in the first decades of the 20th century.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 4: 15. Jh.; 95 Blätter Pergament + 1 Pergament-Ergänzungsblatt (f. 12) + je ein Pergament-Vorsatz- und -Nachstoßblatt, 245 x 175 mm. 3 verschiedene Foliierung und Pag. (alle 19./20.

New covers of dark brown leather with gold tooling, dating from 1958. No index. The original layer of the manuscript consists of organ intabulations of 14th-century vocal works in Italian Trecento notation; CaraE is a facsimile edition of this part of the manuscript, and these pieces are transcribed in PlamKM. The 22 15th-century pieces were added later, in white mensural notation, on pages that had originally been left blank; several treatises were copied on blank pages at the same time. The inscription "Bonadies regulae cantus" is found on the cover.

The original layer of keyboard intabulations was copied in northern Italy ca. 1410-20; the second layer (the 22 pieces listed above) was copied by Johannes Bonadies at the Carmelite monastery of San Paolo in Ferrara in 1473-4; these pieces may represent a Lucca repertory of 1467-73. Padre Martini borrowed the manuscript from Ferrara; BolC A32 is his copy of the later polyphonic works and the treatises in FaenBC 117. The manuscript was later taken to Faenza, probably in the first decades of the 20th century.
