General Description

Polyphony is later addition on ff. 183'-185', copied by a single scribe. Copied in northern Italy, perhaps at Bologna. Owned in 19th century by the Jesuit scholar Antonio Magnani; passed to present library in 1838.

RISM B/IV 5: XVe s. 185 ff. dont 3 de musique. Parchemin, 195 x 140 mm. Foliotation moderne. Notation mesurée blanche. 4 portées par p. Initiales coloriées bleu et rouge alternativement. Rehure ancienne cuir brun.

Le ms. musical étudié ici consiste en 6 pièces polyphoniques à 2vx. (Sup. et T) copiées sur portées tracées à la main aux 3 derniers ff. d'un ms. liturgique qui commence: «Incipit psalterium secundum ordinem fratrum predicatorum ...» et qui contient des hymnes, puis des psaumes, tous accompagnés de l'intonation grégorienne. Le ms. provient de la bibliothèque d'Antonio Magnani, collection-neur et bibliographe bolonais.

Original covers of leather over boards, with brass buckles on back. Monophonic contents (main corpus) copied in square chant notation. Polyphony is later addition on ff. 183'-185', copied in white mensural notation by a single scribe. Staff height ca. 22. Main corpus has red and blue Gothic initials, with illuminated miniature on f. [7]; no initials or decoration for polyphony.
