General Description

F. 1 and f. 5v-8 are blank, though they are ruled with staves. A note on f. 8v suggests Italian origin: 'Johannis Andree civis Bononiensis'. Two hands copied the four mass movements: the second appears to take over from the first in the middle of the music of the Gloria, and is neat but smaller and less practised. To judge from his errors, this writer was not very musical.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A parchment quaternio of the early 15th century meas. 290 x 200 mm., of which f. 1 and f. 5v-8 are blank though they are ruled with the same red five-line staves (8, 9 or 10 per page) as the rest of the manuscript. A note on f. 8v suggests Italian origin: "Johannis Andree civis Bononiensis". There are two hands employed for the four mass movements of this source, and one appears to take over from the other in the middle of the music of the Gloria. This hand is neat, but smaller and less practised than the other. To judge from his errors, this writer was not very musical. Like the compositions, the notation is typical of the 14th century French Ars Nova.
