RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 208 x 138 mm. and containing 222 folios. An old foliation does not cover the 12 folios at the beginning, which are mainly blank, for which a recent foliation in modern pencil has been provided. On f. Iv in a 16th century hand are the words esta se confesa Ju Juan de la Galoga . . ., on f. II Incipit exorcismus salis and a calendar, on f. Xv in a 15th century hand [Ob]tentu (?) matris Marie piene gratie nobis autorem omnium reddat arma propitium, and on f. XII also in a 15th century hand but without music Missa de beate Marie: Vultum tuum deprecabuntur. The corpus of the ms is a Benedictine Missale Plenarium, and this begins at f. 1 proper with the usual Introit Ad te levavi. The music is in square notation, the rubrics in red and the initials in red or blue. It was only in 1943 that this codex was acquired by the Biblioteca Nacional from Don Pedro Camero del Castillo. It is not a musical codex, but a two-part setting of the Spiritus et alme trope occurs on f. 212v.
