RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 238 x 175 mm. and containing 245 folios. The contents of the ms corpus are Ordo VII ecclesiasticorum graduum et in gradibus ordinandi, set ante omnia clericum faciendi. An old foliation at t.m.v. ends at f. 218v and begins at f. 4v. The more complete foliation is in modern pencil at t.r.r. One blank unnumbered paper flyleaf at each end of the codex belongs with the modern binding (see ms C 97). Music has been added in the corpus in a smaller hand than the main one with breves and ligatures in square notation on red four and five-line staves. The initials here are in blue-red. The polyphony is among the music on f. 1-2, and consists of the sequence Promereris summe laudis, tu que deum in two-part score on f. 1v. The notation is of Aquitanian type, using slightly rhomboid breves as the principal note-shape, and four or five-line brown staves. Rudimentary bar-lines divide groups of notes. This piece is identical with Hu 50. There is more music at the end of the ms, for instance a Gloria in black ink on f. 243v-244, and more normal plainsong notation on red five-line staves on f. 244v.
