General Description

Combines a martyrology of Usuardus and a rule of St. Benedict with an earlier Gradual and Antiphoner. On f. 383 is a solitary piece; polyphony is on f. 306. All 3 pieces are for two voices, which are written one above the other. From St. Germain des Pres.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A parchment ms from St. Germain des Pres meas. 306 x 202 mm. and containing 385 folios. This codex combines a martyrology of Usuardus and a rule of St. Benedict dating from the 14th century with a 12th century Gradual and Antiphoner. Part I is written in Gothic script in 2 columns, and the initials are missing, though the guide-letter for them is present. Part II is in a Carolingian minuscule with orange initials often ornamented with green. This section has staffless neumes of French type above the texts, normally 26 lines of text and music per page. On f. 383 is a solitary piece written on a brown four-line stave. The polyphony is on f. 306, but is hardly legible. All 3 pieces are for two voices, which are written one above the other. The 16th or 17th century binding is of much worn brown leather over pulp boards; gilt tooling is to be found on the spine.
