General Description

An attractive source of the Miracles of Gautier de Coincy, formerly at Soissons and in the Middle Ages belonged to the duke of Berry. It is written in a French Gothic script in 2 cols. Only one of the 37 songs is polyphonic, and this contains three-semibreve groups with the first semibreve a downward-tailed major one. The lower of the two parts is an ornamented version of Perotin's Beata viscera. Fol. A-B are slightly later than the corpus; fol. 244 is blank but of the same date as f. A-B.

Decoration

much gold ornament and other colours for initials (blue, red, violet, etc.). There are many miniatures, and Latin glosses from the Bible and the church fathers in the margin. On f. Av is a full-page illumination in many colours of the virgin and child and the crucifixion surrounded by saints

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: An early 14th century vellum manuscript meas. 341 x 245 mm. and containing ii + 244 folios. In addition, there is 1 paper flyleaf at each end, the back one numbered 245 in modern pencil at t.m.r., and they belong to the 17th or 18th century cloth binding in a green and red mixture over pulp boards. This is now covered by a loose sackcloth cover. Fol. A-B are the two front flyleaves, again numbered in modern pencil at t.r.r., and they are slightly later than the corpus. On f.
